The Launch of British BBQ Magazine

In 2004 it was decided that British BBQ was beginning to take shape. In close consultation with Colin Capon, of the BBQ team Major Players and the Mad Cow team, British BBQ began to take shape. It was created in the United States, drawing on the experience of 20 years of exploring American and international cuisine.

The skills for grilling, smoking and even barbecue have been around in Britain for hundreds of years. Alan Simpson has been spreading the word of the British open fire cooking in King Henry's Feast and the principles of grilling and smoking go back further than that. The modern BBQ's are a southern American revival, but when combined with British BBQ provide a whole new spectrum of flavours unknown in American BBQ.

The stage was set and the concept of British BBQ Magazine was announced in November 2004:

British BBQ Magazine Debuts

British BBQ Magazine brings news, reviews and information for the millions enjoying the art of BBQ in the UK. It features the UK teams competing in international competitions, and covers the major US competitions for UK and European competitors.

(PRWEB) November 5, 2004 -- British BBQ Magazine brings news, tips, profiles and advice, as well as coverage of competitions around the world, to the rapidly growing UK BBQ audience, estimated at over 10 million homes. The "How to" sections are written to help this new audience grasp those basics that make a barbecue a success, and not burnt outside, raw inside. Available on the Internet at first, a TV series and print magazine will follow as demand increases.

Barbecue has jumped in popularity in the UK over the past three years, increasing by an estimated 50%. Teams of BBQ enthusiasts have now reached the level of international competition and British BBQ Magazine is working with the leading UK teams to bring US standard competitions to the UK, where currently venues are supermarket parking lots, or Pub Car Parks.

British BBQ Magazine has been launched just in time to announce that British BBQ teams have won top honors at the 16th Jack Daniel's Invitational World Championship. Two British teams stunned the international BBQ circuit by sweeping the Big Jack World Championship in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Mad Cow BBQ from Kent won both the Grand Champion International, and the overall Grand Champion, beating the top teams of the USA, Canada, Australia, Germany and Switzerland. The Major Players team from Portsmouth won the open competition, again beating the best of the USA.

British BBQ Magazine draws editorial material from the US, Europe and UK, and is building up relationships with teams, events, manufacturers and suppliers. This will enable teams to exchange their skills, as well as provide amateur cooks with the knowledge to succeed. US events often attract in excess of 20,000 visitors to watch their favorite teams compete, and sample the array of smoked and grilled dishes, in some cases from smoking rigs the size of 18 wheeler trucks, costing over $250,000.
